2-Nitrophenyl b-D-cellobioside
2-Nitrophenyl b-D-cellobioside is a synthetic cellodextrin that is used as an alternative to natural cellulose for research purposes. It has been shown to have similar properties, like enzymatic activity and crystallinity, to cellulose. 2-Nitrophenyl b-D-cellobioside has been used as a substrate in assays with enzymes such as ?-glucosidase, ?-xylosidase, ?-amylase, and pectin methylesterase. The enzyme efficiency of 2NPBC was found to be significantly higher than the efficiency of crystalline cellulose. 2NPBC also has a high degree of polymerization (DP) which can lead to higher yields of synthetic polymers. Cellodextrins are also efficient carbon sources for yeast fermentation.
