6’-Sialyllactose (6’SL)
Product Description
6’-Sialyllactose (6’SL) is a naturally occurring sialylated human milk oligosaccharide (HMO) consisting of lactose linked with N-acetylneuraminic acid (sialic acid) through an α2-6 glycosidic bond. It is one of the most important acidic HMOs present in human breast milk, contributing significantly to infant health, immune system development, and gut microbiota modulation.
6’SL is widely used in glycobiology, microbiome research, infant nutrition studies, and pharmaceutical research. It plays a key role in neural development and cognitive function, as sialic acid is an essential component involved in brain development. Additionally, 6’SL can act as a decoy receptor, preventing pathogenic bacteria and viruses from binding to host cells, thereby supporting immune protection.
Due to its well-defined structure and high purity, 6’-Sialyllactose is also widely applied in glycan analysis, analytical standards, glycoengineering, and biomedical research.
