2,3,4,6-Tetra-O-benzoyl-D-galactopyranose is a glycoside. It is synthesized by the glycosylation of galactose with benzoic acid chloride in the presence of sodium carbonate. This compound is a natural product that can be found in plants and animals. 2,3,4,6-Tetra-O-benzoyl-D-galactopyranose has been shown to inhibit topoisomerase I and II activity in mammalian cells and induce the uptake of galactose into human adenocarcinoma cells.
