3-Nitrophenyl a-D-galactopyranoside
3-Nitrophenyl beta-D-galactopyranoside is a chromogenic substrate to measure the activity of the beta-galactosidase enzymes. Upon hydrolysis by galactosidase, 3NPG releases a yellowish product, 3-nitrophenol, which can be easily measured spectrophotometrically. Some of the applications include enzyme assays, screening for beta-galactosidase-producing microorganisms, and studying the kinetics and inhibition of a-galactosidase enzymes.
