4-Methylumbelliferyl b-D-xylopyranoside is a fluorescent dye commonly used in biochemistry to monitor protein synthesis. It binds to the amino acid lysine and reacts with the enzyme glyceraldehyde 3-phosphate dehydrogenase, which is involved in the production of cellular energy. 4-Methylumbelliferyl b-D-xylopyranoside can be used as a marker for collagen production. This compound also has amyloidogenic effects, and it has been shown to bind to proteins that cause Alzheimer’s disease. 4-Methylumbelliferyl b-D-xylopyranoside is also a growth factor for mouse monoclonal antibody production, and it can be used in structural analysis of proteins.
