4-Nitrophenyl ?-D-glucopyranoside is a chromogenic substrate for ?-glucosidase. Upon hydrolysis by ?-glucosidase, 4-nitrophenol is released, which can be quantified by colorimetric detection at 405 nm as a measure of ?-glucosidase activity.
