8-Hydroxyquinoline bD-galactopyranoside is an antiherpes drug that inhibits the growth of herpes simplex virus (HSV) by binding to and inactivating the viral thymidine kinase. 8-Hydroxyquinoline bD-galactopyranoside has been shown to inhibit angiotensin II, which is involved in the development of diabetes, hypertension, and renal disease. It also inhibits proteases and has been shown to be effective against L. acidophilus, a bacterium known for its beneficial effects on human health. 8-Hydroxyquinoline bD-galactopyranoside binds to bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, which are enzymes that maintain the integrity of bacterial DNA. This drug also has an effect on signal detection and cell growth factors.
