2-Nitrophenyl b-D-xylobioside
2-Nitrophenyl b-D-xylobioside is a chromogenic substrate for the enzyme ?-galactosidase. It is used in food testing, diagnostics, and environmental testing as an indicator of microbial contamination. 2-Nitrophenyl b-D-xylobioside is also used in fluorescence assay for the determination of ?-galactosidase activity. In this assay, it is converted to a fluorescent product by ?-galactosidase and can be detected by a fluorometer. 2NBPX has been shown to be non toxic and biodegradable, with good solubility at pH 7.0 and a reasonably low melting point. 2NBPX is commonly used as a ligand for affinity chromatography or as an enzyme substrate for quantitative analysis of ?-galactosidase activity in biological samples.
