Colchicine fluorescein is a fluorescent colchicine analog that has been shown to be effective in the detection of human serum. This drug is not active and does not bind to DNA or RNA. It is used for the detection of cancer cells and measurement of cardiac function. Colchicine fluorescein binds to the cell membrane by interacting with p-glycoprotein and inhibits the efflux pump activity, causing dilations in the cells. Colchicine fluorescein can also be used as a substrate for photodecomposition and microscopy.
