Calcium 2-naphthylphosphate
2-Naphthylphosphate calcium salt
Calcium 2-naphthylphosphate is a chromogenic substrate that can be used in the detection of bacteria, yeast, and mold. It has been used to detect Staphylococcus aureus and Candida albicans in food samples and as a culture media for the growth of bacteria. It can also be used for diagnostic purposes, such as detecting the presence of Helicobacter pylori in human stomach biopsies. Calcium 2-naphthylphosphate has been shown to be an effective bioluminescence substrate for the detection of luminescent bacteria from water samples. This substrate is also used in fluorescence-based environmental testing for heavy metals, pesticides, and other organic compounds. The conjugation of this compound with other molecules makes it useful as an enzyme substrate or chemiluminescent probe.
