4-Methylumbelliferyl 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-b-D-glucopyranoside-6-sulfate potassium salt
4-Methylumbelliferyl 2-acetamido-2-deoxy-?-D-glucopyranoside 6 sulfate potassium salt (4MU) is a fluorescent compound that can be used to measure the metabolism of hippuric acid in urine. It has been shown to identify corynebacterium bacteria in urine samples by solid phase microextraction and has been used as an antimicrobial agent against corynebacterium. 4MU is not toxic to mammalian cells and does not have any adverse effects on coagulation factors or lead levels. However, it may cause interactions with other drugs, such as flavonol glycosides, because it inhibits their metabolism. It also has antimicrobial properties against C. glutamicum, which are low energy and non-toxic to mammalian cells.
